Which report answers which question?

Every practice asks the same three questions, and there is one report for each. Every number is counted from real charges and payments in the ledger. Nothing on these pages is a guess.

Who is paying us? Payer performance. One row per insurance company: what you billed them, what they have paid, and what is still outstanding. Read it like a to do list. A payer with six thousand dollars outstanding is who you call this week. A payer with a hundred left is nearly closed.

What did we bill and collect? Production. The same money, grouped by who did the work: by provider group, by physician, or by patient account. Switch the grouping and the same period answers a different question. Which doctor produced what, which accounts carry the charges.

Which visits actually earn? Procedure production. Every service you performed, by its billing code, with how many times and how many dollars. This is how you find your bread and butter, and how you notice when a code you used to bill has quietly stopped.
