Who is the guarantor?

The guarantor is the person responsible for whatever insurance does not pay.

For most adults, that is simply themselves. For a child’s visit, it is usually a parent, and the parent pays what is owed.

That is why a balance can sit quietly with a payer for weeks and then suddenly become the patient’s. Nothing went wrong. Responsibility simply moved down the line, and the account says so.
